K-2 Program - Overview
A sound knowledge of FUNDAMENTALS builds the
foundation for a CHAMPION wrestler. Likewise, in Bridgewater we
believe a STRONG K-2 program builds the foundation for the FUTURE
SUCCESS of our program. Today’s novices are tomorrow’s champions.
With that in mind, K-2 focuses on: FUN, FRIENDSHIP, and
FUNDAMENTALS.
Practices are normally twice a week, and the aim is
to have our wrestlers performing several BASIC moves properly by the
end of their first season. The emphasis is always on maintaining
proper POSITION and using proper TECHNIQUE. K-2 teaches skills and
balance via instruction, drilling, situational wrestling, and GAMES,
such as cowboy riding, spinning bear, bulldozer, knee tap, and
sumo.
K-2 wrestlers usually have the option to wrestle in 4-5
novice tournaments per year, as well as to wrestle in 5-6 scrimmages
with other towns, set-up through the Central Jersey Scrimmage
League. In scrimmages, wrestlers are matched as evenly as possible,
with regard to age, weight, and skill level.
